Gluten

Gluten is a protein found in wheat and related grain. It gives elasticity to the dough. Gluten is not bad. It is good for health. But it will have adverse effects on your body, only if you are allergic to gliadin which is present in gluten.

Gluten is a composite of gliadin and gluten. People with celiac disease have to avoid gluten. Hence only those people should go for gluten free products. Others can continue to eat gluten rich products without any fear.

Its not the marriage, its the Love that matters

The discussion is not new its as old as Shiva and
Parvathi, and when goddess chose Shiva who was not considered as ideal husband by her parents, but still she
married him and they became the ideal
couple to the world, and we call them as
'vaak artha iva samprikthau, jagatah
pitarau vande parvati parameshwarau' Is
there any question or doubt about Love
marriage?

We have seen many couple around us,
since childhood starting from parents.
The married life of parents very much
affects the thoughts of children. If they
are happily married and an ideal couple
children will think theirs was the best
marriage, it could be Love or Arranged.

Then you start looking at all the people
around you and have your own
conclusions on marriages. But hey until
you are married what ever analysis you do
on others life is fake!! Because none of
the couple will show what they are inside
outside! So all your assumptions they are
happy, they are unhappy is baseless.

So how do you decide whether to go for
Love marriage or Arranged? You need
not decide. When it happens it happens. If
you fall in love and get same
reciprocation from other side, just go with
that. If you do not fall in love, or if you do
not get reciprocation from otherside, just
go with traditional search and love the
partner you get. It is that simple. Nobody
decides to fall in love. If you decide to go
for Love marriage and go on rejecting all
proposals you get from traditional ways,
you might have missed your love in one of
them, who knows!!

And after marriage, whether it was Love
marriage or Arranged marriage, it is the
Love for each other that makes or breaks
a marriage.

If each person has a space for other
person in his heart, ready to make
sacrifices, then only the life long
partnership will continue. If one is selfish,
and does not want to sacrifice anything
for the sake of partner, then  no doubt the
marriage will not last.

Love marriage with the blessings of elders
is a dream come true. But often it does not
happen, but then you are proud you have
taken your decision, you have not ditched
the person whom you loved, you take all
the responsibility to keep the other person
happy. The other person will not ditch
you because he or she know how much
you sacrificed to marry her.

My vote is for Love marriage, as long as
both the people involved in decision
making are mature and sensible. But I
really wonder how many of the young
generation are really smart enough to
take right decisions, choose the right life
partner. Because you do not choose a life
partner just because she likes the same
chocolate which you eat, but if she reads
the same book you read, there is some
match. But again it is not common interest
that matters, it is how much love you have
for each other, how much of an extra mile
you will go to keep your love light the
way.

As long as you want to make your

partner's life a heaven and not hell, and

do not expect him to make your life

heaven, then your life, love and

everything around you will be a paradise.

Ragi Malt

Ragi malt is a good drink for people of all ages. I am adding sugar to this, so people with diabetes can prepare this without sugar. But definitely for kids this will be a great nourishing drink during summer and other seasons too.

Ingredients required

Water – 300ml or One glass
Ragi flour – 1 spoon
Sugar – 1 spoon
Jaggery – 1 spoon
Cardamom powder – a pinch
Badam powder (almonds powdered) – 1 spoon

Take water in a cooking pan, add Ragi flour, jaggery and sugar and stir well. Stir well so that no lumps are formed. Then heat it till it starts boiling. Keep stirring occasionally. Once it is boiled enough and you can see that it has come to the consistency of thin soup, put it through a sieve. Now the Ragi malt is ready. To this add some cardamom powder and Badam powder to enhance the taste. You can add little milk. For one glass of Ragi malt you can add half glass of Milk. Drink it either hot or cold as per your liking.

This very nutritious and healthy drink.

( Jaggery is called as Bella in Kannada, Gud in Hindi, it is It is a concentrated product of cane juice/date juice without separation of the molasses and crystals, and can vary from golden brown to dark brown in color.[1] It contains up to 50% sucrose, up to 20% invert sugars, moisture content of up to 20%, and the remainder made up of other insoluble matter such as wood ash, proteins and bagasse fibers)

Vegetable Kichdi

Radish Kichdi or Mooli Kichdi

what you need to have

Rice - 1 cup
Tuvar Dal - 1 cup
Sliced Radish - 1 cup
Sliced Tomato - 1 cup
Sliced Seeme Badanekaayi - 1 cup
Water - 6 cups
Black pepper - 4-5 seeds
Turmeric Powder
Refined oil or Ghee - 2 spoons

Take the pressure pan, keep it on low flame. Add oil or ghee which ever you prefer. Once its warm add

mustard seeds, wait till they splutter, then add Jeera or Cumin Seeds, followed by curry leaves, Pepper

seeds, Turmeric Powder. Now add the vegetables and required amount of salt. Better to put less as you can

add it later too. But make sure you wont put more. Then add water. You can put one spoon of grated

coconut if you have.
Now add the washed rice and Tuvar dal. stir once and close the lid. I use Prestige Cooker and wait for 3

whistles. Else you can keep it on medium flame for 10 minutes. It will take another 10 minutes for the air

to escape or for the cooker to cool. Now you can remove the weight, and taste the kichdi.

It will almost taste like Moolangi Sambaar rice. But will be just right for kids and elders too.

If you are preparing for small babies say who are 6 months to 18 months old, then you can grate the

vegetables so that they can eat it easily.

I have added pepper seeds, as its raining these days, and pepper is good during cold weather. But you can

skip it if you dont want it. And you can make it more spicy if you wish by adding sambaar masala powder.

You can try this with Moong dal also, instead of Tuvar dal.

Let me know once you try this.

Rice with Dal

Once your baby is 6 months old, You can start with solid food. You can mash it and give until baby is able to chew well. Once baby has got enough number of teeth, no need to mash the food.

The recipe which I am going to write is called as Thovve in Kannada. Its common in 'Bayaluseeme' of Karnataka state. Also referred as 'saptage' by village folk.

How to prepare rice.

Rice - 1 cup (100gm)
Water - 3 cups

Wash the rice twice with clean water. Then add 3 cups of water to 1 cup of rice. Pressure cook. Let the cooker make 3 whistles. Because we are putting more quantity of water, if you dont wait for 3 whistles it would not have cooked properly.

If you are not using cooker and making the rice directly, then you need to put atleast 5 cups of water for 1 cup of rice.

Now the rice is ready.

To make Thovve ( Dal tadka)

Tuvar Dal - 1 Cup ( Called Togari beLe in Kannada)
water - 10 cups

finely chopped onions - 1 onion
Garlic cloves - 2-3
curry leaves - around 5
dry red chilly - 1
oil - 1 spoon
mustard - 1/2 spoon
cumin seeds - 1/2 spoon
Turmeric powder - a Pinch
Salt - To taste - 1 spoon

wash the Dal and add water in 1:10 ratio and pressure cook in cooker. You can keep this along with rice also. In separate container.

Take a Cooking Pan. Put 1-2 spoon of oil or Ghee. Always cook on a low flame to avoid any over burning. Once the oil is hot, add the following one after the other in the order given

  1. mustard seeds. Let it splutter.

  2. Then add cumin seeds.

  3. Dry red chilly

  4. the Garlic Cloves.

  5. turmeric powder and Curry leaves.

  6. chopped onions.

roast the onions for while. Once onions become transperent you can add the cooked dal. Add salt. Let the Dal tadka or Thovve boil for 2-3 minutes.

Turn off the heat and close the lid.

How to give it to the child

Take rice in a plate, mash it little. Add good ghee if you have. This is optional. Then add the Thovve. mix well. First you eat and see whether it is tasting good. Then give it to the child. Its important for mother to taste the food before giving to child because if its not tasting good, little less of salt or something, they wont eat even if you repair later. So first bite should be tasty for them. You know kids are very very choosy. I have learnt this from my daughter.

Please try this out and let me know if your child liked it.
