Vegetable Kichdi

Radish Kichdi or Mooli Kichdi

what you need to have

Rice - 1 cup
Tuvar Dal - 1 cup
Sliced Radish - 1 cup
Sliced Tomato - 1 cup
Sliced Seeme Badanekaayi - 1 cup
Water - 6 cups
Black pepper - 4-5 seeds
Turmeric Powder
Refined oil or Ghee - 2 spoons

Take the pressure pan, keep it on low flame. Add oil or ghee which ever you prefer. Once its warm add

mustard seeds, wait till they splutter, then add Jeera or Cumin Seeds, followed by curry leaves, Pepper

seeds, Turmeric Powder. Now add the vegetables and required amount of salt. Better to put less as you can

add it later too. But make sure you wont put more. Then add water. You can put one spoon of grated

coconut if you have.
Now add the washed rice and Tuvar dal. stir once and close the lid. I use Prestige Cooker and wait for 3

whistles. Else you can keep it on medium flame for 10 minutes. It will take another 10 minutes for the air

to escape or for the cooker to cool. Now you can remove the weight, and taste the kichdi.

It will almost taste like Moolangi Sambaar rice. But will be just right for kids and elders too.

If you are preparing for small babies say who are 6 months to 18 months old, then you can grate the

vegetables so that they can eat it easily.

I have added pepper seeds, as its raining these days, and pepper is good during cold weather. But you can

skip it if you dont want it. And you can make it more spicy if you wish by adding sambaar masala powder.

You can try this with Moong dal also, instead of Tuvar dal.

Let me know once you try this.
